Shirley Ethel Teske, 53, Spiritwood, North Dakota, died Monday, August 12, 2002 at her home with family present, after a long struggle with cancer.
Shirley Ethel Sitts was born September 21, 1948 at Mercy Hospital in Oakes, North Dakota, the daughter of Lynus and Helen (Law) Sitts. Shirley lived with her family on various farmsteads and attended school in Brampton, Oakes, and Forman, North Dakota. She graduated from Sargent Central High School in 1967. Shirley moved to Ellendale, North Dakota after graduation, and worked at the cafe as a waitress and at the nursing home as a nurse assistant. In June of 1970, Shirley married Allen Peterson at Battle Lake, Minnesota. She worked at the Fergus Falls Truck Stop as a cook and waitress until moving to Forman, North Dakota where she worked at the Sargent Manor as a nurse assistant. In 1979, Shirley and Al moved to Oakes, North Dakota, where she worked as a nurse assistant at the Oakes Good Samaritan Center. Shirley later received her certificate as a certified nurses assistant. In July of 1983, Shirley married Jerome Teske at the Forman Congregational Church. Shirley and Jerry lived on Lamport Ranch and she continued to work at the Oakes Good Samaritan Center until moving to Leola, South Dakota in 1991. Shirley worked as a CNA at the Hosmer Care Center and at Ypswitch Nursing Home until moving to Woodworth, ND in 1992 where she worked at the Carrington Nursing Home as a CNA. In 1993, Shirley and Jerry moved to Spiritwood, ND after purchasing their home. Shirley was employed at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown, ND until November of 2001 when she was diagnosed with cancer.
Shirley was a dedicated mom, sister, and friend. She spent her life caring for others. She loved ""her residents,"" family, and friends. Shirley took the time to go the extra mile no matter the consequence. She enjoyed gardening, planting flowers, restoring antique furniture, canning vegetables, spending time with her children, family and friends. She also loved the mountains of Montana. Shirley will be greatly loved and missed by all who knew her, especially her children. She was a blessing from God and an angel from God to her children.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Tammy (Scott) Massine, Jamestown, ND and a son, Chad Peterson, Wapheton, ND; three brothers, Ron (Donna) Sitts of Havana, ND, Keith (Brenda) Sitts, Guelph, ND and Larry (Marlys) Sitts, Belgrade, MT.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Wayne.
Funeral Service: 11:00AM Saturday, August 17, 2002 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, with Rev. Mark Haines officiating.
Prayer Service: 7:00PM Friday, August 16, 2002 at the Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial: Oakes Cemetery, Oakes, ND.
The family requests that memorials be sent to Hospice, care of Jamestown Hospital.
