Steven Cumber

Steven Scott Cumber, 49, Montpelier, North Dakota died Saturday, July 1, 2006 near his home.

Steven was born January 28, 1957 in Jamestown the son of Harold and Betty (Kipp) Cumber. He was baptized at the Montpelier Lutheran Church on March 17, 1957, godparents were Leonard and Myra Spilde. He was a member of the Montpelier Cub Scouts with his mom as Den Mother. He was confirmed in May 1972 by Pastor Merle Knudson. Steve graduated from Montpelier High School in 1975 and from North Dakota State University in 1979 with a degree in Animal Science. Upon graduation he returned to farm and raise cattle with his dad.

Steve's greatest pleasure was coaching boys' basketball at Montpelier and then on to Litchville-Marion-Montpelier. He truly enjoyed working with the boys over the years. He also coached a girls' slow pitch softball team in Jamestown. Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing with his dad, playing softball, entertaining his nieces and nephews with magic tricks, and his dog, Mickey.

Steve is survived by his parents; three sisters, Catherine Colette Martin, Prescott, WI, Lynnette Louise (Jeff) Gearman, Alexandria, MN and Gwenda Gail (Mike) Buttke, Fergus Falls, MN; four nephews, Lucas & Isaac Martin, Jacob Fenno and Chad Buttke and two nieces, Jessica (Matt) Kleine and Lindsey Buttke.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Laurel Cumber, brother, Daniel Cumber and grandparents, Herbert and Martha Cumber and Harvey and Florence Kipp.

Funeral Service: 10:00 AM, Friday, July 7, 2006 at the Montpelier High School with Rev. Norman Winkelman officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, July 6, 2006 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:30 PM, Thursday, July 6, 2006 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Burial: James Valley Cemetery, Ypsilanti, North Dakota
