Terry Mathern

Theresa (Terry) Kay Mathern, 52, Edgeley, ND, died Saturday, September 1, 2007 after her valiant battle against pancreatic cancer. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at the Transfiguration Catholic Church, Edgeley, with Fr. Duaine Cote officiating. Burial will be at the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Edgeley.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Edgeley, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Transfiguration Catholic Church.
Terry was born April 17, 1955, at Ellendale, to Roman and Esther (Retzlaff) Scallon. Terry was raised and educated near Edgeley. Terry married Victor Mathern on September 30, 1972. Terry and Victor began their life together on the farm where they raised their family and built a dairy.
Terry's favorite bible verse "Let the children come to me..." describes her life. Terry enjoyed giving her time to her children, grandchildren, and extended family and community children. Terry approached life with her caring, happy and adventurous spirit. Even during her battle against cancer, Terry said it was her "adventure."
Terry was an active member of the Edgeley Ambulance Squad. Over the years, she was a CCD teacher, member of the community choir, altar society and quilter's club and volunteered in many community activities. Terry is survived by her husband and best friend, Victor; their children and grandchildren, Jennie and Matt Lodoen-Ben, Rylee, Maddy, Molly, Wyatt and Zane (Westhope); Rachel and Justin Retterath-Hannah, Jenna and Jack (Washburn); Mary Beth and Dave Carlson-Avarie, Dominic and Sydney (Edgeley); Tess and Tyler Hanson-Tallie, Jace and Cole (Edgeley); Rhonda and Brian Tjernlund-Gracie, Carl and Max (Kulm); Nicholas and Jolene Mathern -Eli and Libby (Edgeley); Tobias Mathern and fiancé Amber Henderson (Wahpeton); Samantha and Steve Wentz (Rugby); her mother Esther (Retzlaff) Scallon; her siblings Patricia (Hal) Prier of Myrtle Beach, NC; Greg (Gail) Scallon of Greeley, CO; Ryan (Michelle) Scallon of Windsor, CO; David (Debbie) Scallon of Edgeley; Beth (Todd) Smith of Bismarck, ND and Mary Jo (Allen) Henne of Bismarck; nieces, nephews and many Mathern family in-laws.
Terry was preceded in death by her father, Roman "Red" Scallon and grandparents.
