Thomas Albert Oxtoby, 86, died peacefully in his home in Jamestown, ND on Friday, May 24, 2024.

Tom Oxtoby was born in Oakes ND on November 11, 1937, to James and Agnes (Romstad) Oxtoby. Tom grew up on the farm and graduated from Oakes High School in 1955. He joined the United States Airforce in 1956 and served until 1960. He married his wife, Ethel, June 4, 1960. They along their daughter, Leslee, moved to Sioux Falls, SD. in 1964. Tom worked at Madson Lincoln Mercury as a mechanic, Transport Inc, and Mobil Oil Corp as a transport driver. In 1967, they welcomed their son, Steven. In 1974, Tom transferred with Mobil Oil Corp. and moved his family to Jamestown. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, The Jamestown Eagles and Elks. In 1980, he was the founding father of The Jamestown Classic Car Club. He enjoyed collecting and restoring antique cars and going to car shows. He and his friend, Jim vended antique car parts at swap meets in Sioux Falls, St Cloud, Minneapolis, and Iola, Wi. Tom collected antique gas pumps, globes, and signs. He enjoyed the HUNT for these items.

In 1982, he and Ethel started their own business, Oxtoby Trucking. Throughout his trucking career, he drove over two million miles. They retired in 1999 and soon began travelling in their motorhome coast to coast eventually having a winter home in Arizona. Tom helped his son-in-law farm and enjoyed hunting deer, ducks, and pheasants. He was skilled at building and restoring furniture, gas pumps, and air meters.

Tom is survived by his wife, Ethel; his two children, Leslee (Keith) Larson, and Steve (Kristy) Oxtoby; five grandchildren, Samuel Larson, Benjamin (Jill) Larson, Anna (Cody) Michel, Lucas (Sarah) Oxtoby, and Melissa Oxtoby. He is survived by one sister Karen (Bill) Sund, and nieces and nephews.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Tom on June 9, 2024, at Hidden River Acres in Jamestown at 3:00. There will time for fellowship, sharing stories about Tom, with a meal to follow.
