Thomas John Waldie went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, February 3, 2017. He passed away at Harris Methodist Texas Hospital in Ft. Worth, TX, after suffering a ruptured cerebral brain aneurysm. Tom was surrounded by his wife and all five children along with several other close family.
Born at the Marion Hospital in Marion, ND on April 9, 1940, Tom was the son of Clayton Charles and Monica (Hemmer) Waldie. He was raised on the family farm, which was homesteaded in 1882 by his grandfather, John Waldie. Tom graduated from Marion High School in 1958 and attended NDSU and then Hanson’s Mechanical School in Fargo where he received a certificate in diesel mechanics. Tom married Jeannette Marie Stemen on October 15, 1960 at the Dickey Methodist Church. They lived on the family farm and took over farming and ranching in 1967, becoming the third generation to farm on the Waldie homestead. Tom began T.J. Waldie Trucking Company in 1979 and loved to drive trucks all over the country. He drove over 3 million miles without ever having an accident. He also owned his own airplane, was a member of the Jamestown Skymasters Flying Club, and loved to fly. He much enjoyed taking his neighbors, family and friends for plane rides.
Tom was Director and President of the LaMoure County Farm Bureau, and President of the Marion 2000 Centennial Committee. He served on the Marion School Board, and was still on the Sheridan Township Board, where he had faithfully served for the last 45 years. He was an active member, Deacon, and board member at First Assembly of God Church, Jamestown. Tom served as a Sunday school teacher for 50 years, was the current Sunday School Superindentant, and chose to serve on several mission trips to Thailand and Nicaragua. Tom was an active member of Light for the Lost for many years and became the Director of ND in 2012 until present. Tom truly loved his farm, and he loved farming. He was adored and smitten by his loving dog, Honey. He received the Soil Conservation Award of LaMoure County in 1983 for his farming practices. Tom was gentle and kind and he truly loved the Lord, his family, his friends and his community.
Tom is survived by his wife, Jeannette Waldie; children, Scott Thomas (Carmen) Waldie, Elise Marie (Kevin) Kirschenmann, Curtis John (Denise) Waldie, Joyce Marie Preston, and Clayton Richard (Julie) Waldie; 19 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
