Velma Roeske

Velma Roeske, 80, of Jamestown died Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at her home near Jamestown. Velma Ann Morris was born October 23, 1935 at Pettibone, North Dakota the daughter of Elmer and Alice (Miller) Morris. She was baptized on April 12, 1936 at Pettibone Lutheran Church. She attended schools in Jamestown graduating from Jamestown High School in 1954. She married Leroy Roeske on October 19, 1958 in Jamestown. They farmed southeast of Jamestown where they lived all their married life.
She served as a member of the Stutsman County Special Education board, H.S.A. and S.H.C.C. health boards, Jamestown Farmers Union Oil board, and the Stutsman County Farmers Union board. She worked as a field staff for North Dakota Farmers Union, youth director for Stutsman County Farmers Union, and assessor for Homer Township. She was a member of Willing Workers Homemakers, later called the Dakota Heritage Club, and the Ypsi 50+Club. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, serving in many roles over the years.
Velma enjoyed quilting, traveling, Bible study, reading, puzzles, card games, watching the Minnesota Twins, and visiting with family and friends. Her grandchildren were a great joy in her life and it was not unusual for them to seek her out for words of wisdom or simple conversation.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Carl) Franke, Jamestown, two sons, Marvin (Lisa) Roeske, Fargo, ND, Darwin (Pauline) Roeske, Jamestown; seven grandchildren, Kurt (Tara) Franke, Scott (Samantha) Franke, Jay Franke, Ashley (Travis) Vinje, Danielle Roeske, Quinn Roeske and Leah Roeske; one step-grandchild, Brandi (Todd) Lebahn; five step-great grandchildren, Camden, Elleana, & Kasen Lebahn, Shelby & Alyssa Diede; three sisters, Margaret McBride, Jamestown, Dorothy (Stanley) Dockter, West Fargo, ND and June Leddy, Vero Beach, FL and her best friend of many years, Marge Lange, Jamestown.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, step-grandson, Wally Diede, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lois & William Gasal, and two brothers-in-law, Paul McBride and Jack Leddy.

Memorials preferred to St. John's Lutheran Church Fit for the Journey Fund.

Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Monday, April 18 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown with Pastor Suzi Orlopp, officiating.
Family Receiving Friends: 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Sunday, April 17 at Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery.
