Verdie Roberts

Verdie Roberts, 84, Las Vegas, Nevada, formerly of Jamestown, North Dakota, died Thursday, October 1, 2009 in Las Vegas.

Verdie Williber was born September 24, 1925 in Cottonport, Louisiana, the daughter of Archange and Ella (Matthews) Williber. She moved to New Orleans during WWII where she met, dated, fell in love with and married Vernon M. Roberts, a Navy man from Jamestown, ND. They were married on June 24, 1944. Their son, Arthur, was born March 7, 1945.

As a Navy wife and mother, Verdie, experienced numerous duty stations over Vern's 20 year military career, including, Norfolk, VA, New York City, Jacksonville, FL, Guantanamo, Cuba, Corpus Christi, TX, Yokohama, Japan, Oakland, CA and Bremerton, WA.

Verdie graduated from Beautician and Cosmetology School and held licenses in six states and two foreign countries. Upon Vern's Navy retirement in 1961, Vern, Verdie and Arthur returned to Jamestown, where she opened Verdie's Stylette Beauty Shop. In 1964 she owned and operated another beauty shop in West Fargo, where her and Vernon moved in 1965. Verdie also managed and taught cosmetology and beauty school at Fargo's New York School of Cosmetology College in Fargo, ND. She continued to own and operate her shop until 1986, retiring after 45 years in the beauty and hair styling business.

Verdie and Vern traveled and became ""Snow Birds"", motorhoming south to their favorite location, Corpus Christi, Texas. They continued traveling south until Vernon's untimely death in April 1999. Two years later Verdie moved to Corpus Christi and lived there and enjoyed friends, the warmth and beautiful Gulf of Mexico and the Padre Island beaches. She later moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to be with her son and daughter-in-law.

Verdie was a wonderful and much loved wife, mother and true friend to all who knew her. She will be sadly missed by family and friends, but never forgotten. She was a true believer and a long time member of West Fargo Presbyterian Church.

Verdie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Darlene Roberts, Las Vegas, NV; 4 grandchildren, Laurie & Erik of California and Todd & Ross of North Dakota; 11 great-grandchildren, Brody, Braden, Jessica, Tayler, Ashley, Kennedy, Adam, Teresa, Kyle, Carson and Natalie; and one sister, Ruth Hampton, Chino, CA.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; four brothers and two sisters.

Memorial Service: 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with Pastor David Thompson officiating.

Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota
