Vernon Schelske

Vernon Schelske, loving husband, father, and grandfather,88, of Jamestown, North Dakota died on Friday, October 2, 2020

Vernon was born on February 21, 1932 in Medina, ND to Theo and Jennie Schelske. He graduated from Medina High School in 1951 and was inducted into the United States Army in 1954. Vernon took over the family farm in 1956 and later purchased it.

He married Donna Schaeffer on June 3, 1956 and they had two sons; Michael and Theodore “Ted”.

Vernon was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Medina. His greatest joys were farming and music. He also spent many hours playing the guitar and was a member of the Medina American Legion. Vernon retired from farming in 1994 and in the Fall of 1995, they moved into Medina. He was able to help Steve Erickson, who purchased the Schelske Farm, plant and harvest each year.

He spent his retirement years singing in church playing his guitar, early morning walks, mowing lawns and helping anyone who needed a hand. Vernon made sure all knew how important John Deere Green was to him!

For health reasons, Vernon and Donna became residents at Eventide Nursing Home, Jamestown.

Vernon is survived by his wife of 64 years, Donna, one son, Michael (Teresa), two grandchildren; Taya and Dirk (Ashley), three great-grandchildren; Kyler, Henleigh and Jacob, sisters; Laura Eberhardt and Norma (Al) Schweitzer, brother-in-law, Vernon Bader and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Theo and Jennie, brothers; Leo and Dan, sisters; Luella and June and his son, Ted.

Visitation: 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Eddy Funeral Home with Pastor Bryce Tahran officiating.

Burial: Medina City Cemetery, Medina, North Dakota.
