Vernon (Bud) Whitney, 84, of Jamestown, formerly of Ypsilanti, ND, died Sunday, November 10, 2002 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown, ND.
Bud was born January 22, 1918 in Winfield Township, near Ypsilanti, ND, the son of Ed and Edith (Schulz) Whitney. He grew up and attended school in the Ypsilanti area. On September 20, 1940 he married Marjorie Kramp in Jamestown, ND. They made their home on a farm near Ypsilanti, building a new home in 1971. In 1995 they moved to Jamestown. Mrs.Whitney died December 3, 1997. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown. Bud was active in 4-H for 30 years. Bud enjoyed square dancing, dancing, and card playing.
He is survived by five children, Robert (Frieda) Whitney, Ypsilanti, ND, Lyle (Darlene) Whitney of Ypsilanti, ND, Linda (LeRoy) Deede, Carrington, ND, Charlene (Duane) Kamphuis, Mandan, ND, and Dean Whitney, Jamestown, ND; one son-in-law, Marvin Kuntz, Ypsilanti, ND; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Irene Hatfield, Ellendale, ND; one brother-in-law, Carl Wiowode, Forrest City, Il; two sisters-in-law, Irma Whitney, Aberdeen, SD; and Genevive Gullickson, of Valley City, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a daughter, Marlene Kuntz, two brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral Service: 10:30AM Thursday, November 14, 2002 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND with Rev. Robert Leiste officiating.
Visitation: Wednesday, November 13, 2002 from 1:00PM to 9:00PM at the Eddy Funeral Home.
Prayer Service: 8:15PM Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at the Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial: James Valley Cemetery, Ypsilanti, ND
