Vernon "Weed" Radtke 96 passed away June 22,2024 @ Edgewood Senior Living, Jamestown ND.
Vern was born July 17,1927 to Rudolph and Clara (Holden) Radtke. He attended rural Radtke school until graduating. He enlisted into the Army for four years. When returning he worked for various farmers as a farm hand then worked at Stutsman County driving gravel truck. After moving to Jamestown, he worked for the college as a custodian, then Napa and O'Reilly's delivering parts.
Vern met the love of his life Esther Enztminger at a dance in Ypsilanti. They later married on August 31, 1951 and celebrated 25 years of marriage. He later married Betty Gerber on September 30, 1978.
Vern spent many years camping in the summer out at Smokey's Landing. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, dancing, playing cards, listening to and playing music. Wherever he went, he was always playing and singing for someone up until his passing. You could catch him mowing his lawn or shoveling, up until he moved into assisted living in 2022. He was an animal lover at heart including his dogs and birds he had over the years.
He is survived by his two sons Delray, Jamestown, and LaVern (Mary), Fargo; eigth grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, both his wives, two sons, Tom and Bryan Sr, grandson Bryan Jr., two brothers, Floyd and Mick (Roy), two sisters, Florence Klande and Dorothy Larson and a special friend Lucille Morlock.
Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, June 28, 2024 at Eddy Funeral Home with Pastor Bryce Tahran officiating. Interment will be in James Valley Cemetery, Ypsilanti, ND.
