Victor Van Erem, 80, Jamestown, North Dakota, formerly of Spiritwood, North Dakota died Monday, December 1, 2003 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home in Jamestown. Mr. Van Erem was born September 20, 1923 in Jamestown the son of George and Kathryn (Brown) Van Erem. He received his education in Buchanan, North Dakota. Vic entered the US Army on May 17, 1944 at Ft. Snelling, Minnesota. He served in France, Germany and Austria in the 71st Infantry Division. He was discharged on March 2, 1946 at Ft. Dodge, Iowa. He farmed at Buchanan a few years then in 1950 he bought a farm at Spiritwood, ND where he farmed until his retirement. Vic married Shirley Wiese on May 23, 1953 in Jamestown. Shirley died November 20, 2002.
He loved fishing, gardening and playing cards. Vic was a life long member of the Basilica of St. James in Jamestown. He was clerk for Spiritwood Township for 35 years and was a National Farmers Organization (NFO) member for 30 years.
Vic is survived by three children; Dale (Becky) Van Erem, Spiritwood, Vicki (Brion) Knudsen, Marion, ND and Jerry (Darla) Van Erem, Jamestown; seven grandchildren; and two brothers, Darrel Van Erem, Jamestown and Harvey (Shirlee) Van Erem, Bismarck, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one daughter, Kathy.
Funeral Service: 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 6, 2003 at the Basilica of St. James, Jamestown with Father Al Bitz officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 to 9:00 PM, Friday, December 5, 2003 at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Prayer Vigil: 7:30 PM, Friday, December 5, 2003 at Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, North Dakota.
