Victor \""Vic\"" Wilbert Legler, 84, Jamestown, North Dakota died Saturday, November 27, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, of complications from cancer and heart disease.
Vic was born November 6, 1926 in Jamestown, the son of Wilbert and Kate (Mulnow) Legler. He grew up on the family farm northeast of Jamestown. After graduating from Jamestown High School, he attended North Dakota State University, where he obtained a degree in Agricultual Economics. He also served in the United States Air Force for two years. Vic married Marlys Timm in 1949. He worked for the county extension service for 8 years, living in Devil's Lake, Forman and Cooperstown, ND. He began farming on the family farm in 1958.
Vic was a member of United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown, served on the Bloom Township Board and was active in various farm organizations, including Land Owners Association of North Dakota.
Vic is survived by his wife, Marlys, of Jamestown; two sons, Kent Legler, Jamestown and Paul (Julie) Legler, Burnsville, MN; three daughters, Carol Westine, Helena, MT, Ellen (Bill) Soper, Onalaska, WI, and Jane (Jeff) Byrne, Portland, OR; nine grandchildren; and one brother, Ronald (Lenora) Legler, Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and a son-in-law, David Westine.
Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at the United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown, with Pastor David Reiter officiating.
Visitation: 9:00 AM to Noon, Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, North Dakota.
Burial: Sunst Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, North Dakota
