Viola Carlson

July 23, 1925 — February 5, 2004

Viola ""Vi"" Carlson, 78, Jamestown, North Dakota died Thursday, February 5, 2004 at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown. Viola Gums was born July 23, 1925 in Medina, North Dakota the daughter of Christ and Elizabeth (Heiser) Gums. Vi grew up in the Medina area, attended public school in Medina and graduated from Medina High School. Vi attended Jamestown College and the Dakota Business College in Fargo. She was employed at Montgomery Wards for a short time as a bookkeeper. Vi married Alfred Carlson on December 23, 1951 in Jamestown, ND. They lived and farmed southeast of Jamestown until their retirement in 1981. Alfred died June 19, 1999.

Vi was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown, Morning Circle at St. John's Lutheran Church, Homer Homemakers and a 4-H leader of the Lads & Lassies 4-H Club for many years. She enjoyed doing word search puzzles, playing Scrabble, fellowship with her friends at the Heritage Center and traveling where she had visited all 50 states.

Vi is survived by one daughter, Karen (John) Berglund of South Haven, MN and two sisters, Leona Daede, Jamestown and Arlene (Bernard) Kramer, Kensal, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Monday, February 9, 2004 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown with Rev. Doug Opp officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 to 9:00 PM, Sunday, February 8, 2004 at Eddy Funeral Home.

Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Sunday, February 8, 2004 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, North Dakota.
