Viola Hochhalter

March 31, 1921 — February 10, 2005

Viola Hochhalter, 83, Cleveland, North Dakota died Thursday, February 10, 2005 at Jamestown Hospital in Jamestown, ND.

Viola Gross was born March 31, 1921 in Cleveland the daughter of Jacob and Magdalena (Rieb) Gross. She attended rural schools then graduated from Cleveland High School in 1941. On January 7, 1943 she married Henry Hochhalter in Jamestown. Viola worked on the family farm until retiring in 1973. She worked at Cleveland Public school from 1978 - 1982. Henry passed away in 1982. Viola lived on the farm until her passing.

She was a charter member of the Ladies Auxillary, a member of the Cleveland Senior Citizens and the United Methodist Women, where she served as treasurer for many years. Viola enjoyed gardening, reading, crocheting, sewing and trying new recipes. She loved her dog and cats, and her house cat, Newton, was her favorite.

Viola is survived by her four children: Linda (Gary) Gross, Fredricksburg, VA, Alan Hochhalter, Cleveland, Joann (Pete) Matcha, Grafton, ND and Nathan (Norma) Hochhalter, Cleveland; six grandchildren, Tracee, Brian, Jenny, Lil Pete, Carrie and Wendy Jo; three great-grandchildren, Jocelyn, Hunter and Coby and one brother, Lloyd (Virginia) Gross, Laguna Hills, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister and one brother-in-law.

Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Monday, February 14, 2005 at the Cleveland United Methodist Church with Chaplain David Fisher officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 PM, Sunday, February 13, 2005 at the Eddy Funeral Home.

Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Sunday, February 12, 2005 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.

Burial: Cleveland Cemetery, Cleveland, North Dakota.
