Violet Lorraine Degenstein-Wolf, 86, Jamestown, ND died Monday, September 23, 2013 at Jamestown Regional Medical Center.
Violet "Vi" Haugtvedt was born January 23, 1927 in Norwegian Grove Township in Ottertail County, Minnesota, the daughter of Ingvald and Bernice (Julsrud) Haugtvedt. Vi grew up on several different farms in Pelican Rapids/Rothsay/Barnesville communities. She graduated high school in Barnesville, MN. After graduation she worked in Chicago for Northwestern Bell and later transferred to the Fargo Moorhead area for a few years. On February 20, 1949 Vi married Harold "Harry" Degenstein. Together they had two children, Peggy Lynne and Joel Alec. They made their home in the Fargo Moorhead area until Harry's job moved them to Jamestown and later Detroit Lakes, MN. In 1960 they moved back to Jamestown and Vi started working at the ND Farmers Union State Office. She worked there until 1992, retiring after 32 years with them. Harry passed away on November 6, 1993. They were married for 44 years. Vi continued to make her home in Jamestown.
Vi met Albert Wolf in the fall of 1997 at a senior singles dance in Merricourt. It was the first dance either one of them attended after the death of their spouses. They found they had much in common; going to Hardees for coffee, walking, fishing, drives in the country, family activities and sharing their faith. They were married on May 5, 1999.
