Virginia Lulay

January 4, 1924 — December 16, 2011

Ginny was born January 4, 1924 on a farm near Wimbledon, ND to Helen (Altringer-Russell) and Einer Peterson. She grew up during the depression and learned the values of living in a small town. She attended all 12 years at Wimbledon Public School, graduating as Valedictorian of both 8th grade and high school was one of her biggest honors. School was a love of hers and she participated in basketball, track, and student council. Ginny was a doer and this stayed with her all her life.

On June 7, 1944, she married the love of her life, Robert Lulay. They spent time in Tampa, Florida while Bob was an Instrument Specialist at Drew Field in Tampa. After the war, they farmed on the John Lulay farm near Wimbledon. Later, they operated the Sun-Moon Hotel in Wimbledon for 7 years, and then moved to the house she was currently residing. For 38 years, Ginny was employed at Jack's Red Owl, later to become M & J Super Value in the meat department and also in the bakery. She retired in 2006.

For 65 years, Ginny was a member of the Legion Auxiliary. She was President, Secretary, and Unit Member of the Year in North Dakota. Many soldiers were uplifted by the Valentines and Christmas cards she sent every year. For many years, Ginny was secretary and treasurer of the Wimbledon Senior citizens.

Ginny was a big supporter of her town. The town people of Wimbledon called her "The Wimbledon Ambassador." Ginny was a consultant for the Midland Depot Project and was the historian for the Peggy Lee Project. Her greatest joy and pride was in the Saint Boniface Catholic Church where she was baptized, received First Communion, confirmed, and where she was married. Throughout her life her family and her faith in the Lord brought her through many hard times.

Ginny is survived by her son, Robert (Alma) Lulay; son, Timothy (Jan) Lulay; daughter, Mary (Dale) Loven; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Sandy Greene; and one brother, Louis Peterson.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one son, Gary; two brothers; one sister; and one granddaughter.
