Walter Perleberg, 97, Jamestown, ND passed away Monday, July 8, 2019 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.
Walter William Perleberg was born to Herman and Elvina (Buetow) Perleberg on July 6, 1922 at the family farm near Buchanan, ND. He attended school near Buchanan until his family moved to Maynard, MN in 1938. They moved back to ND in 1940.
In 1944, Walt joined the K&K orchestra as the accordion player. He went on to play with various bands including Melody Kings, Burleson Orchestra, Knight Riders, The Playboys, and The 3 W’s. Walt loved music all of his life and was often singing or humming a tune.
Walt met the love of his life, Edna Boschee, in 1943 at a dance in Jamestown. Walt and Edna were united in marriage on August 26, 1945 at Edna’s parents’ home near Wishek, ND.
The couple moved to their farmstead near Eldridge in 1948 where they farmed and raised cattle, hogs, and chickens. The farmstead is also where they raised their five children together. Walt resided on this very farmstead up until his passing.
Walt loved farming, hunting, fishing and mowing his yard. He was always telling jokes, reciting poems, verses, prayers, and enjoyed watching his favorite polka shows and Cowboy Church on television. He lived his life with a continuous smile on his face and the most loving heart. Walt was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Walt loved spending time with his kids, grandkids and great grandkids. His home was the gathering place and you can bet you would encounter one of the many relatives if you stopped at Walt’s for a visit. He missed Edna ever since she was called to her heavenly home and we can only imagine their joyous reunion.
Walter is survived by his children, Phyllis (James) Lees, William (Kim McGarrah) Perleberg, Bruce (Joan) Perleberg, all of Jamestown, ND, Gail Falck, Buchanan, ND, Tamara (Patrick) Greff, Fargo, ND. 15 grandchildren, Troy Lees, Cindy Flam, Cristy Wahl, Kimberly Perleberg, James Perleberg, Katie Perleberg, Ross Perleberg, Brian Perleberg, Caley Perleberg, Jeremy Perleberg, Christopher Perleberg, Jill Lura, Josh Falck, Reagan Greff and Jackson Greff, and 16 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Gideon Boschee and sisters-in-law, Alleen Buetow, Alma Decker, and several nieces and nephews.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Edna, his parents, four brothers, Albert, Alva, Rudy and Arthur, six sisters, Vera, Della, Esther, Viola, Linda and LuElla, granddaughter, Amy Perleberg and son-in-law, Jeffrey Falck.
