Warren R. Sand, 86, Jamestown, North Dakota died October 27, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family.
Warren R. Sand was born June 4th, 1931 in Cokato Township, Logan County, North Dakota. The Son of Robert and Dagny (Kleppe) Sand. He was raised in the rural Logan County area, northeast of Napoleon, ND. Warren attended rural Bakken grade school. After graduating in 1948 he worked on the family farm until being drafted to the Army in 1952, being the oldest son, Robert was able to get him deferred twice to stay on the farm and work but the third time he had to go. In Feb. 1953 Warren was shipped to Korea as a member of 1st Calvary Division 61st Artillery Division. He spent 2 months in Korea until his unit was shipped to the island of Kokkaido, Japan with the 61st Artillery Division. Spending the rest of his time at Camp Chitose before being discharged in August 1954 earning the Good Conduct Medal and other various medals for his time served.
Warren worked the summer of 1955 for a carpenter in Jamestown until entering Hanson Mechanical School in Fargo, ND graduating in June, 1956. Warren worked at Sunbeam Motor Pontiac Garage until May 13, 1957 when he began working for Western Auto Parts Company until he partially retired in 1996. He continued doing part time work for Carquest and fully retired a few years later.
Warren married Betty J. Alveshere on June 9, 1958 at Fargo North Dakota. They enjoyed many activities together including bowling, camping, square dancing and spending time with their children and grandchildren. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary together in June 2008 which took them on their first limo ride with their children and grandchildren. Betty passed shortly after on September 4th 2008.
Warren has spent many hours enjoying various activities including playing musical instruments, teaching himself to play by ear and tempting every grandchild to take an instrument home, but they never really did. He loved spending time with family, being with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Giving rides around the farm to others in his Model T was a pure joy for him.
Warren was a member of all the various service organizations and also a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
Warren is survived by two sons, Dennis (Tammy) Sand and Doug (Sherry) Sand, a daughter-in-law Lisa Sand, all Jamestown. Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, Sierra Sand, daughter Kaelyn, Jamestown, Skyler Sand, Moorhead, MN, Jennifer (Ed) Jackson, Kristy Sand, and Kyle Sand, son Reegan, all Jamestown. Brothers, Dale Sand, Napoleon and Randy (Judy) Sand, Tuttle, Sisters, Audrey Oberlander, Wenatchee, WA and Ardith (Curt Bomesberger) Sand, Rapid City, SD.
Several nieces and nephews. Warren was preceded in death by his wife, parents and grandparents and brother-in-law Sonny Oberlander.
Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Monday, October 30, 2017 at Eddy Funeral Home with Pastor Bryce Tahran, officiating.
Visitation: 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Sunday, October 29 at Eddy Funeral Home.
