William Johnson

April 20, 1921 — March 12, 2004

William H. ""Bill"" Johnson, 82, Jamestown, North Dakota died Thursday, March 12, 2004 at Jamestown Hospital. Bill was born April 20, 1921 in Jamestown to Henry C. and Dorothea (Turner) Johnson. He attended Jamestown Public Schools. Bill entered the North Dakota National Guard in 1941 and was in Company H, 164th Infantry. He was activated and sent to Camp Claibourne, LA. From there he was sent to the South Pacific and stationed in Gaudalcanal and the Fiji Islands. He was discharged in 1945 at Fort Snelling. Following World War II he worked 32 years for the U.S. Postal Service as a carrier. He also retired from the North Dakota National Guard in 1981 and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and Bronze Star. On December 27, 1945 he married Muriel Flannery in Jamestown. Bill was an avid golfer, stamp collector and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Muriel, Jamestown, ND; one daughter, Jeanne (John) Andrews, Lake of the Ozarks, MO; one son, Jeffrey (Ruth) Johnson, Kingman, AZ; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Arlene Trautman, Fergus Falls, MN, Lorraine Bennett, Mesa, AZ, JoAnn (Bruce) Nelson, Bismarck, ND, Betty (Garth) Madcke, Jamestown, ND, Dorthea Gums, Jamestown, ND; two brothers, Lyle (Margaret) Johnson, Petaluma, CA and Gordon Johnson, Jamestown, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.

Memorial Service: Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at 11:00 am at Basilica of St. James, Jamestown, ND with Fr. John Kizito, officiating.

Burial: North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
