William "Bill" Hamm

After a long and full life, William “Bill” Hamm, 82, of Jamestown, passed away on Sunday afternoon June 18, 2023 at Eventide, Jamestown, ND.

Bill was born on January 10, 1941, in Jamestown, ND, the son of Ralph (Bud) and Leona Hamm. He graduated from St John’s Academy, and throughout his youth he enjoyed being a part of the family business “Hamm’s Market”, run by his father Bud and Uncle Ted, and often fondly recalled memories of his time at the market.
Bill was married three times, to Judith Nermyr, Carole Seal and Nancy Cebula and had five children - John (born 1965), Anthony (born 1967), Adam (born 1971), Charles (born 1978) and Laura (born 1981). He enjoyed a successful career as a salesman however his true passions remained the outdoors, and his family. An avid fisherman and hunter, he relished all moments outside including the times he spent at Jamestown Reservoir growing up, as well as stints living at Spiritwood Lake and cherished years at Moon Lake. A man of various interests and talents, he also enjoyed reading, cooking, playing cards, music and sports. He will always be remembered as someone who was there to help his family and friends, and his greatest joy in life was being a father. His most indulgent thrill in later years was frequently playing the lottery - not because of what he’d do for himself with the money, but because fantasizing about how many other people's lives he could positively impact was his truest joy.
Bill is survived by his children: Anthony Nermyr, Adam Hamm, Charles Hamm, Laura Hamm, brothers Gerry Hamm and Dave Hamm as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his son John Nermyr, and sister Carol Hamm.
William was a lifelong member of the Catholic church, and an avid believer in meeting his heavenly creator when he crossed over. A memorial mass will be held Saturday, June 24, 8 am St. James Basilica in Jamestown, North Dakota.
