Wilmer Gienger, 91, Jamestown, North Dakota died Saturday, July 4, 2015 at Ave Maria Village Nursing Home. Wilmer was born May 26, 1924, on a farm east of Streeter, ND, the son of Paul and Mary (Seidel) Gienger. Wilmer attended a country school through the 3rd grade. They moved to Sydney, MT for a short while then moved back to Streeter, where he attended the Baptist Church. He was baptized at Crystal Springs, ND. Wilmer enlisted in the Army and was an MP in Germany during WWII. On June 6, 1948, he married Erma Spitzer and farmed in the Streeter area and attended Agriculture School. In 1953, they relocated to a farm south of Cleveland, ND and later purchased a farm west of Cleveland where they resided until retiring to Jamestown in 1976. Wilmer & Erma resided in West Fargo, ND with their daughter Valeria for a period of time and later moved to Rock of Ages and then to Ave Maria Village. Wilmer worked for the Railroad and Jamestown Stockyard while farming, then after retiring he worked at Marble Steele and the Jamestown State Hospital. Wilmer's favorite pastimes were fishing and dancing. He was a member of the Baptist Church and later of St. Paul's United Methodist Church of Jamestown. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. Wilmer is survived by his children, Valeria Youle, West Fargo, ND, Delbert (Judy) Gienger, Glasgow, MT, Rosalie (Terry) Wibstad, Jamestown, ND, Cindy (Dean) Schlaht, Cleveland, ND, Tilmer (Sandy) Gienger, Jamestown, ND, Ross (Jolynn) Gienger, Jamestown, ND; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen (LeRoy) Lang, Jamestown, ND; one sister-in-law, Jeannine (Keith) Berlin, Valley City, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Erma, one grandchild, three brothers and four sisters.
Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Friday, July 10, 2015 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Jamestown with Pastor Arlyn Coalter, officiating.
Visitation: 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, July 9 at Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Thursday, July 9 at Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens.
