Gottlieb Strobel

Gottlieb Strobel, 94, Jamestown, North Dakota, formerly of Lehr and Ashley, ND, died Sunday, May 13, 2007 at Jamestown Hospital.

Mr. Strobel was born September 28, 1912 in Fallon, Montana, the son of Gottlieb and Caroline (Schilling) Strobel. The family moved back to North Dakota when Gottlieb was a small boy and he attended country schools in Lehr, ND. He farmed with his father on the family farm. On October 15, 1936 Gottlieb married Alice Miller in Lehr. They continued to live in Lehr where he was employed by the Civilian Conservation Corps. They later moved to the family farm where they continued to farm until 1948. They moved to Lansing, Michigan for a short time, but returned to North Dakota in 1950 and continued to farm in the Lehr and Ashley area from 1950 to 1974. Alice died February 6, 1974. Gottlieb married Claudine Hoffman in late 1974. They moved into Ashley and lived there until 2001. Claudine died in 2001. Then he moved to Jamestown to live with his daughter, who lovingly took care of him.

Gottlieb enjoyed gardening and bird watching. He was an avid Minnesota Twins fan.

He was a member of the Ashley Baptist Church where he was active in various church activities and a member of the Ashley Senior Citizens.

Gottlieb is survived by his daughter, Betty (Ronald) Walks, Jamestown; six grandchildren, Betty (James) Rezac, Ft. Worth, TX, James (Lisa) Harter, Las Vegas, NV, Steven (Kelly) Harter, New Smyrna Beach, FL, Judy (James) Ronngren, Jamestown, Susan (Larry) Beck, West Palm Beach, FL and Patty Dahl (Steve Moos), Jamestown; 16 great-grandchildren; three half-sisters and one half-brother.

He was preceded in death by both wives; two brothers and four sisters.

Funeral Service: 1:00 PM, Thursday, May 17, 2007 at the Ashley Baptist Church, Ashley, ND with Revs. Darwin Stahl & Bryce Tahran officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel in Jamestown.

Burial: Lehr Cemetery, Lehr, North Dakota.
