Jenner "Jj" Koenig

Jenner “JJ” Koenig, 83, Jamestown, ND was called to heaven on Sunday, February 17, 2019, while a resident at Ave Maria Village.

Jenner was born on a farm northeast of Woodworth, ND on January 31, 1936 to Otto and Reneta (Cellmer) Koenig, the third of four children. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He received his education in the Woodworth area. In 1957, he entered the United States Army and was discharged with honors in 1959. He then returned to North Dakota and learned the trade of road construction. He was united in marriage to Esther Guthmiller of Pettibone, ND on February 19, 1961.

In the earlier years of their marriage Jenner and Esther lived in various parts of the state for his work. In 1963 to 1973 he managed the Standard Oil Bulk stations in Pettibone and Woodworth where they made their home. Jenner also did custom crop spraying and excavating through the years. They moved to Jamestown in 1985 and he continued to work on road construction, running heavy equipment until he retired in 2006.

JJ looked forward to deer hunting every year with family and friends and was the founder of the family tradition of breakfast at the “Hunting Shack”. He enjoyed going to the Truck Stop for coffee with friends. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown.

Jenner is survived by his wife, Esther, and three children, Sherri (Kerry) Hochhalter, Mishelle (Kendall) Enzminger and Kevin (Heidi) Koenig; six grandchildren, Blake (Ashley) Hochhalter, Brock (Nicole) Hochhalter, Kimberly (Skyler) Fogderud, Chelsey (Justin) Moser, Levi Peterson and Dylan Koenig; six great-grandchildren, Grace, Chloe, Addysin, Leilani, Wesley and Harlee; sister Harriet Halvorson, sister and brother-in-law Carol and Arnie Schick, sisters-in-law Irene Vogel and Vi Hartzel and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Donald and Delilah Guthmiller.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Reneta, mother-in-law and father-in-law Pauline and Philip Guthmiller, brother and sister-in-law Walter and Mavis Koenig and brother-in-law Art Vogel.

Prayer service will be held at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, on Friday, February 22 at 7:00 PM. Memorial service will be Saturday, February 23 at 11:00 AM at Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown with Pastor Tom Eckstein officiating.
