Ruth M Gerdes

Ruth Marie Gerdes, 84, Jamestown, formerly Jud ND, passed away Sunday, March 25 at Eventide, Jamestown, ND. Ruth was born on January 11, 1934 in Jud to Carl and Lydia (Jahn) Gerdes. She graduated from Jud High School in 1953.

She was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church until it closed, taught Sunday School for many years, and was also the church secretary/treasurer. Her faith was very important to her.

She worked at Dagen's Grocery for 38 years and then the Jud Café for 15 years.

She enjoyed reading, circle-the-word books, puzzles, playing with farm animals, particularly cats and dogs, and playing games on her cell phone. She also enjoyed watching sports, especially her nieces' and nephews' events and the Minnesota Twins.

Ruth is survived by nieces Marilyn (late Norman) Nitschke, Jamestown, Mylene (Donald Jr) Lee, Jamestown, and Kenya (Jeff) Shannon, Jamestown; nephew Rolin Nitschke, Butte, MT; great-nieces Michelle (Tim) Martin, Jamestown, and Sherry (Eric) Benson, Bismarck; great-great-nephew Preston Martin, Jamestown; great-great-nieces Ryleigh Martin and Shayla Martin, Jamestown; special friends Jay Nitschke, Jamestown, and Deanna Dagen, LaMoure, ND.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Kenneth Gerdes, Harry Gerdes and John Gerdes, sister Helen Nitschke, brother-in-law Alex Nitschke and nephews Norman Nitschke and Wayne Nitschke.

Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Friday, March 30 at First United Methodist Church, Jamestown with Pastor Elmo Herman officiating.

Visitation will be 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, March 29 at Eddy Funeral Home.

Spring Burial: St Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Jud, ND.
